ELLP (Early Language and Literacy Plan)

In 2016, Winnetka began participating in ELLP as part of Cohort 2. ELLP is a data driven instructional approach designed to accelerate student achievement in English Language Arts in Kindergarten through second grade. Students receive targeted instruction in the California Standards for Foundational Skills, Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language.

A key component is the Literacy Academy. During Academy time, students are placed in flexible groups centered on supporting student language development and providing literacy instruction and intervention based on students’ needs, as determined by multiple measures. Often this requires that students move to another classroom for 30 to 45 minutes each day.
