Gifted & Talented Education

Our Gifted and Talented Programs create high-end learning opportunities that allow students to flourish in stimulating academic and social environments. In designing challenging educational opportunities, we strive to raise the floor, remove the walls and eliminate the ceiling on learning.

Winnetka’s identified gifted students receive a differentiated curriculum as part of the regular school day, so that they attain optimal levels of learning. Curriculum experiences for gifted learners are planned, implemented, and evaluated in order to maximize student potential.

Teachers of gifted and talented students differentiate the core curriculum through various means, including:

• flexible groupings,
• acceleration of content,
• independent study,
• tiered assignments,
• interest centers, learning centers,
• compacting in the student’s area of strength, mentorships, adjusting questions, and use of above-grade-level resources.
